15-year-old Brazilian wins medal at International Mathematical Olympiad
2 min readStudent Thiago Boslaw Zuponi won a silver medal at the Copernican International Mathematical Olympiad in New York.
The 15-year-old, who is attending his first year of high school at a school in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo, also won third place in the world of controversy.
“The 25 logical questions take 90 minutes to solve. I had to adapt to the North American content, since the test was taken in New York, as well as to answer in English. This exchange of knowledge is interesting,” he said in an interview with G1.
Honoring
Tiago compete against 200 others Participants from nine countries, including Vietnam, the United States, Cambodia and Laos, as well as two other countries of Brazil. In his category, Thiago was the only one to return to Brazil with a medal.
He said he was honored by the accomplishments.
The Brazilian competed in Category 4, which includes students from the ninth grade of elementary school to the first year of high school. In total, the disputes are divided into five categories, which cover the stages of teaching.
To participate in this competition, a Brazilian student had to submit his two most recent winning medals – one from the International Kangaroo Olympiad and the other from the Brazilian Public School Math Olympiad (OBMEP).
The first international conflict
This was the first time a Brazilian student had left the country to compete in a proof of knowledge.
Thiago, who dreams of becoming an engineer, said that he intends to continue participating in the Olympics to increase the collection of prizes.
