Heavy rains in the east caused flooding Kentuckyto us America, Thursday (28.July.2022). According to state governor Andy Beshear, at least 8 people are dead and many more are missing.
“In a word, the event is disastrous, and I believe it will end up being one of the most significant and deadly floods we have experienced in Kentucky in a long time.Bashir said in an interview with reporters.Let’s end with a 2-digit death toll. At the moment, I think at least 8 can be confirmed, but the number is increasing by the hour.“
The governor also said that 23,000 families have been cut off due to the floods. Some are isolated on rooftops or trees. The National Guard and the state police are involved in the rescue operation.
The flooding was caused by 20 centimeters of rain in just 24 hours, according to the National Weather Service. The North Fork Kentucky River, normally 60 centimeters deep, reached 6 meters.
