Petrobras announced that it has identified the presence of hydrocarbons (from which oil is produced) in the pre-salt Santos Basin, in a pilot well in the Aram block. According to the state-owned company, the 1-BRSA-1381-SPS well (Curacao) is located 240 kilometers from the city of Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, at a water depth of 1905 meters.

Hydrocarbons consist of carbon and hydrogen, which can be in a liquid, solid, and gaseous state, and are found in energy sources such as oil and natural gas.

Petrobras, Friday (19), reported that the oil tolerance interval was verified by electrical profiles and fluid samples, which will later be characterized by laboratory analyses. This data will allow assessment of potential and direct future exploratory activities in the area.

According to the state-owned company, the consortium will continue its operations to complete the project to drill the well to the expected depth and verify the extent of the new discovery, in addition to characterizing the conditions of the existing reservoirs.

“Drilling the Curaçao well demonstrates the success of a strategy that is strongly based on technological innovations, with maximum use of real-time processed data, allowing fast and secure decision-making,” the state-owned company said in a statement.

The Aram block was acquired in March 2020, in the sixth round of bidding by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), under the Production Sharing Scheme, with Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA) as manager. Petrobras is the operator of the complex and jointly owns 80% with the Chinese company CNODC (20%).
