Cancer is a term that includes more than 100 types of malignant tumors. According to the National Cancer Institute (Inca), the most common feature of the diseases is the disturbed growth of cells that can invade the tissues of other organs.

After a survey of all Brazilian states, the Incas found that in Brazil, in 2020, more than 625,000 new cases were diagnosed. About 316,000 in women, the most common of which is breast cancer, which occupies 29.7% of the total. Males also had a high rate of more than 309,000 diagnoses. The most common disease among men is prostate cancer, with 29.2%.

More than 8,000 new cases were recorded in the state of Mato Grosso alone in the same period. 1380 in the capital Cuiabá. Changes in the breast correspond to 50.93% of the diseases presented by women.

Medical oncologist Anna Yanai explains that the cure rate for some cancers, when diagnosed early, is 90% and when not treated properly, the same percentage can be fatal.

“Cancer is a very silent disease. It arises, for the most part, from a genetic mutation, that is, from a change in the DNA of the cell, which begins to receive wrong instructions for its activities. The earlier it is diagnosed, the higher the likelihood of recovery through surgery or treatment,” he noted. Chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

To help with this prevention, the Sinop municipality has the Association of Volunteers of the Northern Mato Grosso Institute for Cancer Prevention (AVIP). The volunteers aim to build a stationary unit of the Institute, connected to the Hospital de Amor in Barrettos, on the outskirts of the Pioneer Highway (Airport Road).

The project initially aimed to help prevent breast and cervical cancer across the north of the state. A temporary unit located on Rua das Magnólias 153 Setor Comercial is already in operation.

Earlier this month, AVIP launched the third edition of the ContribuiAção campaign in which 5 motorbikes will be towed. The goal is to raise funds to build the fixed unit and keep the temporary unit in operation. Cards are sold at the following points: MG Stationery, Estação das Motos, Nova Sinop, Cabral Torno e Solda, Tuiuiu Diesel, Santa Catarina Spring Station, Delta Service and Student Stationery.

In addition to the stationary unit, the institute owns a truck that travels between 15 municipalities that are part of the Vale do Teles Pires federation, including: Sinop, Sorriso, Lucas do Rio Verde, Nova Mutum, Santa Carmem, Feliz Natal, Cláudia, Ipiranga do Norte and Itanhangá and Nova Maringá, Nova Ubiratã, Tapurah, União do Sul and Vera.

The truck is equipped with the latest mammography equipment and a team trained by the Hospital de Amor de Barrettos. Since the beginning of their service, on November 18, more than 1,500 women have been examined.
