Her name was Yulia Zhdanovska, she won a silver medal at the European Mathematical Olympiad in 2017 and is considered one of the best young athletes in Europe. One of the organizations I worked for, Teach For Ukraine, described it as “fantastic”. He lived in Kharkiv, in the east of the country. Even with the war, he refused to flee. “I will stay in Ukraine until we win”He said.
The 21-year-old turned out to be one of the victims of the war. Yulia Zhdanovska was killed in a fire that broke out after the explosion of a Russian missile that hit a residential area in Kharkiv. Soon, social media praised him.
