Metaverse Doesn’t Seem Convincing Teens – Marketer
1 min readThe Grand Equation may fascinate and present itself as the next stage of the digital experience, but for now, it just doesn’t seem compelling to teens. According to a study by investment bank Piper Sandler, many young people surveyed remain skeptical about the idea of an online world, even though many others use video game platforms such as Minecraft and Fortnite.
Half of the 7,100 (3,550) teens included in this US financial institution’s biannual analysis of Generation Z say they do not intend to purchase a device that gives them access to the metaverse — such as a virtual reality headset. On the other hand, only 9% said they were interested in the degree of purchase and 26% revealed that they already have a device of this type. However, of those, only 5% access the metaverse daily and 82% less than a few times a month.
Although this data does not look promising, companies remain optimistic, constantly presenting various events such as festivals and concerts. Artists like Lil Nas X, BTS, and Ariana Grande, for example, have broken records, conquering millions of viewers.
And when it comes to cryptocurrencies and NFT, the younger generation does not seem to be impressed by what these technological advances might represent. Although 85% of respondents have heard of cryptocurrencies, only 11% have either bought or sold these digital currencies. Over 60% know what non-redeemable tokens are, but only 8% have ever received one.
