NASA recently released a revealing new image of Jupiter.

As detailed by NASA in a statement, the large dark shadow on the left side of the image was cast by Jupiter’s moon Ganymede.

The Juno spacecraft captured this view of Jupiter during the mission’s Close Pass 40 near the giant planet on February 25, 2022.

Until then, eclipses on Jupiter are more common than eclipses seen on Earth.

However, Jupiter has four major moons that often pass between Jupiter and the Sun.

As NASA reports, in just one week, Ganymede passes once; Europe twice; Ayu four times.

Because Jupiter’s moons orbit in a plane close to Jupiter’s orbital plane, the moon’s shadows are often cast over the planet.

Scientist Thomas Thumopoulos created this color-enhanced image using raw data from the JunoCam tool.

At the time the initial image was taken, the Juno spacecraft was 44,000 miles (71,000 km) above Jupiter’s cloud tops.

Also, according to the information, at a latitude of about 55 degrees south and 15 times closer than Ganymede, which orbits about 1.1 million km. Check the log:
