PlayStation faces several million lawsuits to deceive consumers
1 min readSony PlayStation has been sued for allegedly “stealing from gamers” for the past six years.
The lawsuit, filed by the Competition Court of Appeals on Friday 19 August, involves UK gamers who have purchased digital games or add-ons from the PlayStation Store since 2016.
According to the lawsuit, UK gamers have been subjected to “excessive fees” for their £5 billion ($5.9 billion) digital purchases over the past six years.
The above process estimates that about 9 million people have purchased games or DLC through the PlayStation Store. If it goes ahead, everyone will be entitled to compensation between £67 and £562, plus interest.
The complaint was filed against the company by consumer rights advocate Alex Neal and alleges that the company “stealed people” by unfairly using its market power to enforce unfair terms and restrictions on game producers and creators who, in turn, raised prices for the unsuspecting. consumers.
“Through this legal action, I am defending the millions of people in the UK who have been unintentionally burdened. We believe Sony has misused its position and robbed its customers,” Neil said.
“Many vulnerable people depend on games for society and communication. Sony stock is costing people who can’t afford to pay millions, especially when we are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis and the consumer wallet is being squeezed like never before.”
We’ll see if PlayStation has a say in this case in the near future.
