The 7-year-old daughter of a Miami fire department employee was among those who collapsed the Surface building

The remains of the girl were recovered by members of the department’s urban search and rescue team in the rubble Thursday night, Chief Joseph Zahralban said in a statement.
“We mourn our loss and support our own,” the leader asked privacy to the family and the fire department. The Miami-Date Police Department said Friday that the girl could not be publicly identified at the family’s request.
Alan Kominski, Miami-Tate County Fire Chief, said the firefighter was not part of that rescue effort. Kominski told reporters that his teammates found the remains and then called him.
“When we see an individual, you know, obviously we pay our respects, we have a process. I’m not going to go into details, but with different religious beliefs, we have a process that we started with, we adhere to,” Kominski said.
“I want to emphasize … we do it and we respect all the loved ones we have lost,” Kominski said.
Miami-Date County Mayor Daniel Levine Kawa said the remains of the girl, who was found Thursday, were among two people found that evening.
“Not to mention that every night since this last Wednesday has been very difficult for everyone, especially the affected families, but last night was uniquely different,” Kawa said.
“It was really different, different and very difficult for our first responders,” the mayor told the conference on Friday.
