The competition for Vojvoda makes Vasco analyze Plan B for the sake of the coach
2 min readJuan Pablo Voevoda is my favourite Basque to lead the team in 2023. However, the Argentine coach is also in the crosshairs of other major clubs in Brazilian football, such as Atlético-MG, Corinthians and Fortaleza itself, which have proposed a contract renewal. Stiff competition forced Cruz-Maltino to consider other options and one of them is also foreign.
This is the Portuguese coach Antonio Oliveira, 40, who led Cuiaba in the last Brazilian championship. The trainer was already accompanied by 777 partners and will be available on the market after December 31st. He’s on vacation in Portugal and is due to meet Paulo Brax, who is in the country on a series of club visits in Lisbon and Porto.

It is noteworthy that Antonio Oliveira appears as a possibility if Juan Pablo Voevoda does not accept Vasco’s project. Internally, there is great confidence that the Argentine will be the coach, but Atlético MG’s attack made the situation difficult. Eligible for the Libertadores national team, Gallo is about to open its stadium and, like Cruz Maltino, intends to form a SAF that will allow the arrival of resources to assemble a competitive team.
Adapted to Brazilian football, Antonio Oliveira arrived at Santos in January 2020 to be an assistant to Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira as well. He left the club in August and was hired by Athletico-PR in October of the same year. In 2021, he will be the coach of the Hurricanes until September. The coach was also quoted as replacing Voevoda himself at Fortaleza.
