After the second round of elections, product prices skyrocketed and fuel was one of the items on this list that hits the pockets of Brazilians most. Values \u200b\u200bwere some reductions on the eve of the vote in the polls, which encouraged drivers who rushed to gas stations, but the happiness was short-lived, and Petrobras announced the new price of gasoline.

Fuel has become more expensive in recent days, for the fifth consecutive week. The National Agency of Petroleum (ANP) monitors price fluctuations and conducts weekly surveys of values found at gas stations. The research revealed that benzene experienced a further increase between November 6 and 12.

The national average price of fuel increased by 0.8% compared to the previous seven days and continues an upward trend over the next few days. Fuel is up 4.8% since Oct. 2, the day of the second round of elections in Brazil. The increases, even without Petrobras refinery adjustments, continue for 76 days.

What is the new value of gasoline?

The National Ports Agency survey revealed that the average price of a liter of petrol is R$5, the highest value the survey found was at a gas station in São Paulo, where a liter of petrol was sold at R$7.54. Another survey, conducted by the Ticket Price Index (IPTL), indicated that the average price of a liter of petrol had increased by 1.19%, compared to October.

In the first weeks of November, petrol was sold for R$5.30. The fuel came from a downward trend in prices, although they were more conservative compared to other months.

The regions that suffered the most from higher gasoline prices in October were the Midwest and the South, with increases of 2.79% and 2.73%, respectively. The highest average fuel price during the month was recorded in the north at R$5.46, an increase of 0.39%.

The price of diesel and ethanol

Last week, diesel and ethanol also got more expensive. Diesel rose 0.15% and rose from R$6.58 to R$6.59, the second weekly increase. The highest recorded price was 8.52 Brazilian reals per liter. Ethanol also rose by 2.43% in just one week, from R$3.70 to R$3.79. This is the sixth consecutive high, and the highest value found was R$6.10.

Although there have been no increases at Petrobras refineries for more than 76 days, private refineries, such as the one in Mataribi, Bahia, are adopting the adjustments. Another reason that contributed to the price hike was the blockade of highway protests across the country and the increase in the value of anhydrous alcohol, which makes up 27% of the gasoline blend.

Even with the recent increases, the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom) calculates that the average price difference for petrol and diesel is 5%, which means the values Petrobras sells are still lower than what’s found abroad.
