A team of Family Health Strategy made up of professionals from Oiapoque, on the border of Amapá with French Guiana, 600 km from Macapá, had a great scare in the slopes to take immunization action for the residents of Vila Brasil, 100 km from the seat of the municipality.
Doctors, nurses and health technicians who were on a boat hit the support winch and some were thrown into the river, at a time when the current was very strong.
Fortunately, everyone clung to the ship after falling into the water. No one was seriously injured. A military garrison, also present in the aftermath of the SUS team’s action, provided assistance and prevented any victims from being swept off the slopes.
The municipality’s Minister of Health, Josemar dos Santos, thanked the support of the army and the courage of health professionals to face the force of the current and provide care to the remote residents of Vila Brasil.
“You are true SUS warriors, it is not easy to face the challenges of nature, distance from family and the many other adverse situations we face to deliver health care to the most remote population,” he issued in a note.
