a Average price of gasoline At refueling stations in the country, it is again below R$5.00 per liter this week. On the national average, fuel costs R$4.94 per liter for the consumer, down 1.4% compared to the previous week, when it was R$5.01 per liter. This was the fourth consecutive decline in the price and the strongest in recent weeks, when they were close to stabilizing.

The move is related to Petrobras’ lowering of gasoline prices at its refineries announced on December 9. Therefore, the state-owned company lowered input prices at its refineries by 6.1%, or R$0.20 per litre. As Petrobras pricing repercussions on the final price of inputs are gradual, the trend is for the price to drop at the pumps further in the coming weeks.

Petrobras’ downgrade came in the context of fluctuations in global oil prices, which have seen a decline followed by easing in recent weeks, and have remained close to $80 a barrel. Since Petrobras’ domestic prices are in line with the import parity price (PPI), a window has opened for the company’s price reductions.

Another factor affecting the drop in consumer gasoline prices is the drop in the price of anhydrous ethanol, which makes up 27% of the fuel mix. The price of anhydrous ethanol has been down for five weeks and has already seen a cumulative decline of 5% between November 14 and December 16, to R$3.1 per liter.

Diesel S10

The same logic applies to the diesel S10, which saw the average price per liter drop 2.2%, or R$0.15, this week, to R$6.48, compared to R$6.63 in the previous week.

The decline reflects the recent drop by Petrobras, by 8.1% or R$0.40 per liter, in the prices it exercises at its refineries, which should still have a greater impact on the consumer price in the coming weeks.

liquefied petroleum gas

In the same vein, liquefied petroleum gas or cooking gas, which is widely consumed by the population, saw a slight decrease of 0.5% in its average consumer price. Between December 11 and 17, a 13-kilogram can of input cost, on average, R$109.43 versus R$109.99 in the previous week.

The price of liquefied petroleum gas, which has been alternating between highs and lows in recent months, has fallen in recent weeks as a result of recent downward adjustments made by Petrobras in its refineries. Two weeks ago, the state-owned company reduced the price of liquefied petroleum gas sold to distributors in its units by 9.7%.
