A new 6.3-magnitude earthquake hits the border area between Turkey and Syria | world

The US Seismological Center (USGS) said that a 6.3-magnitude earthquake at a depth of 10 km hit the Turkish-Syrian border area on Monday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was in the town of Uzenbag, Hatay Province. Al Jazeera Network reported that a second earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 had its epicenter in Samandağ.

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), nine more tremors of smaller magnitude (between 3 and 4) hit the region throughout Monday afternoon (20).

Two Reuters witnesses reported a strong earthquake and more damage to buildings in the center of Antakya, another city in the state.

The state of Hatay was severely affected by the earthquake at the beginning of the month, which killed more than 46,000 people and left more than 385,000 apartments uninhabitable and more than a million homeless.

There is still no information on deaths or injuries.

The record comes hours after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken told Turkey that Washington would help “for as long as possible” after the devastating and deadly earthquakes that hit the same region two weeks ago.

The US State Department said that humanitarian aid sent by the United States to Turkey and Syria has already reached $185 million.
