Tesla | Musk “forgets” new electric cars and focuses on sustainable energy
2 min readElon Musk, CEO of Tesla, detailed the third part of his master plan to the company’s investors during an event at the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, this Wednesday (1). The CEO was surprised to reveal that launching new electric cars is not the main priority in the company’s future strategy.
Despite confirming, via a slide, that there are at least two new cars, one of which will be a small, accessible electric car, the billionaire made it clear that Master Plan 3 has other, more important goals.
Musk wants to create what he calls a “sustainable energy civilization”:
“I really wanted today not just Tesla investors who own stocks, but really anyone who is invested on Earth, because there is a clear path to sustainable energy on Earth. It doesn’t require destroying natural habitats. It doesn’t require us to cut back and stop using electricity,” he said.
According to the CEO, investments of US$10 trillion would be required to create this sustainable future powered by renewable energy, an amount he considered “low for the global economy”.
According to the CEO of Tesla, the infrastructure necessary for a sustainable civilization, including wind and solar energy, “will occupy less than 0.2% of the Earth’s surface.”
More Tesla plan points
And Elon Musk added that the fact that the launch of new electric car models was not given priority does not mean that the company will leave aside its main position. Quite the opposite. The executive management plans to significantly increase production of current models and deliver up to 15 times more cars per year than current demand.
The news about the vehicle comes in addition to the imminent launch of the Cybertruck Pickup and the new generation Model 3 and Model Y, two of Tesla’s best-selling vehicles. Both will be produced on a new platform and Musk aims to reduce costs with new battery technology, smaller and more efficient.
In addition, Master Plan 3, within the framework of investing 10 trillion US dollars for sustainable energy civilization, foresees actions in various ways, such as:
- adding renewable energy to the existing grid;
- installing heat pumps in homes and buildings;
- use of high-temperature hydrogen heat supplies for industrial applications;
-
Building aircraft and boats with sustainable fuels.
