A passenger quarrels with a flight attendant and jumps off the plane just before take-off
2 min readOn Saturday (25), a Delta Air Lines passenger was arrested after opening the emergency door of a Boeing 757-200 and activating the emergency chip at Los Angeles International Airport, minutes before the plane departed. The unidentified passenger, who was wearing a red and navy blue striped jacket and black pants, was alleged to have an argument with a flight attendant before the flight.
According to passengers’ accounts, the flight attendant insisted that the man sit down, but he refused, went straight to the emergency exit doors, opened them and slid down the emergency chute. After this action, the plane had to stop and airport officials were able to detain it until the police arrived.
Los Angeles Airport Police said the incident was reported to the FBI and the passenger was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. Delta Flight 1714, en route from Los Angeles to Seattle, returned to the gate and the aircraft had to be replaced on that flight.
“The plane was waiting for the taxi to take off when the passenger got off,” Delta Airlines confirmed it in a statement reported by Fox News. “Customers are being re-housed on a new aircraft and we regret the inconvenience and delay in their travel plans.”
Because of the accident, the flight was delayed for 3 hours. Video recorded on the plane shows the passenger being detained by the police (see below, wait for upload).
