Atlético “releases” Codit’s fine, which may come out after Mineiro; Understand – Radio Itatiaia

Atlético accepted Eduardo Codete’s request and on Saturday (8) signed a contractual amendment allowing the coach to leave the club without paying a termination penalty. The value exceeded $6 million (about R$32.3 million).

If the Argentine also signs the amendment, it would allow Atletico to choose the end of the bond without having to pay itself. If this happens, it is likely that the coach will leave his post even with the eventual victory of the Mineiro Championship title, on Sunday (9).

After beating América 3-2 in the first leg of the final, on Saturday (1), in Independencia, Gallo could lose on goal difference in Mineirao, which would ensure the quadruple state. Coelho, in turn, needs to win by two or more goals.

The tension between Codete and Atlético gained repercussions after the 1-0 defeat against Libertad, last Thursday (6), in the team’s first appearance in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, in Mineirão. The Argentine shot off the board and even towards the crowd during a controversial press conference.

A day later, on Friday (7), Codit made a public statement again, but this time to apologize. At Cidade do Galo, he admitted a mistake in exposing internal affairs and retracted himself from Atlético’s management and investors.

“It was not the right time and place to talk, but, it happens to me sometimes. Sometimes I say what I feel at the moment, but this is the time to send a message of being together and thinking about Sunday’s game,” said the Argentine.

Eduardo Codete was announced as coach of Atlético in November 2022. Since then, the Argentine has led Alfinegra’s side in 16 matches and 10 wins.
