Rio Grande do Sul confirms a fourth death from dengue in 2023
2 min readThe State Health Surveillance Center (Cevs) confirmed, on Wednesday night (12), the fourth death from dengue fever in Rio Grande do Sul in 2023. In health services as soon as the first symptoms appeared. In this way, exacerbation of the disease and the possible development of death are avoided.
The victim is a 23-year-old man who resides in the municipality of Guia. He suffered from Down syndrome, obesity and heart disease. The death occurred on April 9, but the analysis result was only announced today (12).
Dengue is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Control of this urban scourge is essential to reduce the number of cases.
Simple actions are responsible for preventing the circulation of Aedes. The most important of which is cleaning and reviewing the interior and exterior spaces of homes and apartments and removing objects with stagnant water. Mosquito repellents are also recommended to increase individual protection against them Aedes aegypti.
The number of cases is constantly rising
This year, Rio Grande do Sul has recorded 5,132 confirmed cases of the disease, of which 4,698 are indigenous (infection occurred within the state) and the remainder are imported (Republika Srpska residents who became infected while traveling elsewhere).
In 2022, the state had the highest rates of the disease in its entire historical series: more than 57,000 domestic cases, 11,000 imported cases and 66 dengue deaths.
