Survey indicates that PB is expected to eliminate the waiting list for elective surgeries in SUS

A report by the Ministry of Health, which collected data from 16 states and the Federal District, indicated that Paraíba is expected to perform all pending surgeries in the Unified Health System (SUS). The survey was delivered to the volume, which is examining the implementation of a new federal program aimed at moving resources to reduce the waiting period for surgeries, exams and consultations in the public network.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced the National Program to Reduce the Queue (PNRF) in January, as one of the priorities for the first 100 days of his third administration. Right now, the federal program is still in Phase 1, where elective surgeries are a priority.

Elective surgeries are procedures that do not require urgency or emergency, although they can make a difference for patients. In this case, people who have aesthetic or cosmetic purposes, such as rhinoplasty, silicone implants, etc., are considered elective.

Figures from Paraiba and other states

According to the survey released by the Ministry of Health and reproduced in a report on Portal g1, Paraíba has an announced waiting list of 19,313 elective surgeries. The difference for all other states, except for Piauí, is that all procedures are already scheduled.

For example, in the state of Minas Gerais, there is an announced waiting list of 86,414 patients, but only 40,883 are scheduled for procedures. In the northeast, Bahia has 78,797 advertisers and 54,137 planned, neighboring Paraiba, Rio Grande do Norte has 27,492 pending, but only 6,676 with elective surgeries scheduled.

However, the survey contains information from only 16 states and the Federal District. Pernambuco, Sergipe, Pará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have not sent their data to the federal government. Meanwhile, Mato Grosso and Tocantins are awaiting approval from the Ministry of Health.
