Sputnik – The United States intends to offload oil from the seized Iranian oil tanker Suez Rajan soon, increasing tensions between the two countries, the Financial Times writes.

“The United States is expected to soon begin offloading oil from a seized Iranian ship, which is now moored off the coast of Texas, and threatens to escalate the tanker war with Tehran,” the article reads.

The US is said to be pumping oil from the Suez Canal Rajan, which was previously busted for allegedly being involved in the transfer of Iranian oil to China, and which has been docked 70 miles from the port of Galveston since May 29.

The ship is carrying about 800,000 barrels of oil, a cargo worth about 56 million US dollars (273.3 million Brazilian reais), the article said.

As reported, the US will sell the oil, but the destination of the money from the sale has yet to be determined.

Follow up on recommendations

The money could go to a fund established by Congress for “American victims of state-sponsored terrorism” or “those who stand up to the Iranian regime.”

Iran is one of the world’s largest oil and gas producers, and sells most of its fuel to Asian markets amid US threats of minor sanctions.

Now, due to the constraints, the Islamic Republic is trying to dramatically increase its economic, energy and security cooperation with its neighbors in Eurasia.
