Individual health plans will adjust to a maximum of 9.6%, ANS decides

The National Agency for Complementary Health (ANS) on Monday (12) announced the maximum readjustment of 9.63% in the price of individual and family health plans. The value was determined and approved during a meeting of agency directors. The change will be effective from May 1, 2023 (retroactively) to April 30, 2024.

The differences in the value of the adjusted monthly fee for May and June, respectively, will be charged for July and August – in addition to the adjustment already provided for in those two months (understand the calculation below).

The amendment is valid for medical and hospital plans that have been contracted from January 1999 or that have been adapted to new legislation (Law No. 9.656/98).

It should be noted that the increase in the value of health plans is applied by the operators on the date that celebrates one year of the service contract. The decision does not include group plans, whether joint or membership.

History of changes

In the previous year, a negative adjustment of -8.19% was set in individual health plans due to the pandemic-induced decline in the use of medical services, with procedures such as surgeries and exams being postponed. (See plan modification history since 2000).

For the Brazilian Association of Health Plans (AACPs), the fluctuation from 2021 down and from 2022 onwards was the effects of moving medical expenses due to the isolation period to fight the pandemic.

According to a survey conducted by the National Agency for Complementary Health, in December 2022, the Total users of healthcare plans were 50,493,061, of which 8.9 million were family or individual members.
