Dismissal of the Russian general after reporting difficulties in the war in Ukraine

A Russian general has been sacked after telling his superiors about the situation Russian forces are facing at the front in Ukraine.

In a four-minute audio recording, released on Wednesday night (12), he said he was fired because he complained to his superiors about some of the hardships the soldiers are going through.

Ivan Popov commanded the 58th Battalion in Zaporizhia, a critical combat zone, home to the largest nuclear power plant in Ukraine and Europe.

In addition to dealing with the ongoing Ukrainian counterattack, the Russians are also facing internal difficulties. In the past three weeks, since the Wagner Group rebelled against the Russian army, an important general has disappeared, one has met his death in a bombing and another has been sacked.

According to the Wall Street Journal, at least 13 Russian officers have been detained and questioned about possible mutiny since the head of the mercenary group tried to overthrow the army chief.

Despite this, the Ukrainian counterattack still faced challenges. The Russians have occupied some areas for more than a year and have built miles of interconnected, zigzag trenches, some reinforced with concrete or covered with wooden and earthen roofs, so their location is difficult to locate with drones.
