Brazilian cars described crash test

This Thursday (13), Latin NCAP released another battery results from crash tests in 2023. This time, Citroen C3 It passed the device’s impact tests, and performed so poorly in all ratings that it scrapped the crash test. But the new C3 wasn’t the only Brazilian-made model whose safety tests weren’t promoted with vehicles for sale in the country and in the South and Central American region.

Other models that are among the best sellers on the Brazilian market, such as Hyundai HB20For example, also reset the crash test – and not so long ago. Another recent example is Jack E-JS1, the brand’s entry-level compact electric car, which in 2022 was the first electric car to be evaluated in the history of the program, and received a score of zero. And it wasn’t just the overall score. This is because protection for adult occupants is also rated as zero (0.00%).

Overall, if we consider all the tests that Latin NCAP has conducted since 2010, 37 vehicles have zeroed in on the rating. The protocol for conducting the tests was updated in 2020, and since then, 15 cars have already received a score of zero in the evaluation of the impact tests conducted by the Foundation.

Of these fifteen models that scored positively in tests, only eight have passed cross-country or are still in line, namely: Kia Sportage, Citroen C3, Fiat Argo, Fiat Cronos, Ford KA Sedan, Ford KA, Renault Duster, Hyundai HB20 and JAC E-JS1It was already mentioned above. The Hyundai HB20 has undergone improvements that have helped increase its overall rating, and the Ford Ka family, for example, has already been discontinued in the country.

Interestingly, models such as Fiat Argo, Cronos, Kia Sportage, JAC E-JS1 and Renault Duster are still the same as those evaluated by Latin NCAP, for example. Models that have passed crash tests and continue to be sold in Brazil have a low rating. In addition, the Foundation issued memos proposing to recommend that these models be discontinued.

Brazil has models for sale that have performed well in crash tests

However, there are models in the country with high results for sale. Since evaluation protocols became more stringent in 2020, only eight models have passed the test, ensuring more safety in the event of a collision. Of these models, only three are not for sale in Brazil.

Among the safest names: Volkswagen Virtus, Taos, Neffos and Tygon, Toyota Corolla, Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Qashqai, Chevrolet Tracker. However, of those listed, only the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan are sold in Brazil. Finally, the latter is for other markets, where it is a rebranded version of our very own VW T-Cross.
