Uncommon West Coast Hurricane Forces Rays and Angels into Doubleheader on Saturday

Title: Tampa Bay Rays Adjust Schedule for Hurricane Hilary, Maintain Winning Streak

In a proactive move to ensure the safety of both teams and Southern California residents, the Tampa Bay Rays have rescheduled their Sunday series finale with the Los Angeles Angels due to Hurricane Hilary affecting the West Coast of the United States. The game will now be part of a split doubleheader on Saturday, with the first game slated to start at 4:07 p.m. (Tampa Bay time), followed by the second game at 9:07 p.m.

With Hurricane Hilary expected to bring extreme flooding, mudslides, and tornadoes, the rescheduling allows the Rays to return home ahead of its forecasted arrival. Rays manager Kevin Cash has expressed his approval of Major League Baseball’s decision, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing safety during unpredictable weather events.

Despite the schedule change, the Rays’ pitching rotation for the doubleheader remains unaffected. Zach Eflin will take the mound for the night game, while Tyler Glasnow will start the matinee. In another positive development, reliever Andrew Kittredge has returned to the team after completing his rehabilitation process from Tommy John elbow surgery in June 2022. Kittredge made a significant impact in his first game back against the Angels on Friday, earning a save for the Rays.

Unfortunately, centerfielder Jose Siri was unable to start the game due to a sprained pinkie finger. However, he made a valuable contribution as a pinch-runner during the 10th inning. Additionally, first-base coach Chris Prieto was absent from the game due to a family medical matter, with assistant hitting coach Dan DeMent stepping in to cover his responsibilities.

Notably, infielder Jonathan Aranda, a native of Mexico, had about 20 relatives and friends in attendance during the recent game. Their support undoubtedly served as an extra motivation for the team.

As the Rays adapt to the rescheduled series and withstand various challenges, they continue to maintain their winning streak, having won eight straight series openers.

Amidst the uncertainty brought by Hurricane Hilary and various individual setbacks, the Tampa Bay Rays demonstrate resilience and a united front as they strive to add another victory to their impressive season record.
