Shiv Telegram Media: Seahawks trade for QB Sam Howell from Commanders
2 min readThe Seattle Seahawks made a bold move in acquiring quarterback Sam Howell from the Washington Commanders in a recent trade. The deal also included draft picks in the fourth and sixth rounds going to Seattle, while the Seahawks gave up picks in the third and fifth rounds. However, the trade is still pending Howell passing a physical examination.
Howell, who started for the Commanders last season, is expected to provide depth to the Seahawks’ quarterback position following Drew Lock’s departure to the New York Giants. He may even compete with Geno Smith for the starting job, as they are currently the only two quarterbacks on Seattle’s roster. Howell has two years remaining on his rookie deal with Washington, which he signed after being selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft.
After the trade, the Seahawks now have a first-round pick, two fourth-round picks, two sixth-round picks, and a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft. Howell had a decent season with Washington, throwing for over 3,900 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. However, he also struggled in the latter part of the season, throwing just four touchdown passes and being intercepted 12 times as the Commanders faced a losing streak.
In response to Howell’s departure, the Commanders have signed Marcus Mariota in free agency and are expected to select a quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft. With six picks in the top 100 and seven in the top 102, Washington is looking to bolster their roster for the upcoming season. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
