Bills Prevented Stefon Diggs from Seeking Chiefs Trade Before Texans Deal – Shiv Telegram Media

The Buffalo Bills made headlines in the NFL world recently as they blocked wide receiver Stefon Diggs from seeking a trade to the Kansas City Chiefs before ultimately dealing him to the Houston Texans. According to NBC Sports’ Chris Simms, Diggs was allowed to seek a trade from any team in the league except for the Chiefs.

In exchange for Diggs, the Bills received 2024 second- and sixth-round picks, as well as a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Texans. However, the Bills will take on over $31 million in dead cap following the trade, marking the highest known dead cap hit ever taken for trading a wide receiver. Simms suggested that the trade showed the Bills’ strong desire to move on from Diggs.

Despite their rivalry with the Chiefs, the Bills were not willing to trade Diggs to a team that knocked them out of the playoffs multiple times in recent years. Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler, had a stellar season in 2023 with 107 catches for 1,183 yards.

With the Texans, Diggs joins a receiving corps that includes Nico Collins and Tank Dell, catching passes from quarterback C.J. Stroud. The addition of Diggs makes the Texans’ receiving group one of the most dangerous in the NFL and positions them as a potential threat to the Chiefs in the AFC next season.

Interestingly, the Texans voided the remaining three years on Diggs’ contract as part of the trade, turning it into a one-year, $22.52 million deal. This move could potentially pave the way for Diggs to eventually end up with the Chiefs, despite the initial block from the Bills.
