But the “relationship” was hurting the animal

“I love this animal, and he loves me. I don’t have anything else. Why would they want to take this from me?” he asked, according to People magazine. “We’re having an affair, I’ll just say that.”
The cheetah lived in the zoo for 30 years. For the past four years, it has been visited weekly by Timmermans. The two were constantly seen waving and waving kisses at each other.
Chimpanzees are “ignored” by other animals
According to zoo officials, the “cause” was harming Chita’s relationship with other chimpanzees, who ignored the animal and excluded it from the group.
“He (Cheta) ends up alone outside visiting hours,” a zoo spokesperson explained. “An animal that is so focused on people is not respected by its peers. We want the Chita to be as chimpanzee as possible.”
Despite the clarification, Timmermans complained about the decision to ban it and considered the zoo’s management to be “unfair”. “Dozens of other visitors can connect. So why not me?”
