The reason for its occurrence in the early hours of Tuesday may be the excessive speed at which the car was traveling, almost three times the permissible amount. According to the Supervisory Authority for the Road Transport of Persons, Goods and Goods (Sutran), GPS data showed the driver was driving at 94 km/h on a stretch where the top speed is 35 km/h. Officials believe he lost control of the vehicle and then overturned 72 kilometers off the road near the Matukana district.

Following the Sutran report, the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) decided to suspend the León Express license to transport people and implement the route on the Central Highway. The vehicle involved in the accident had all documentation up to date and was authorized to make the trip.

The bodies of the victims arrived at the central mortuary in Lima late Wednesday, but family members were told that identification and exhumation procedures could only be carried out from 8 a.m. Thursday. Some of them arrived in the capital from Huanuco, the starting point of the overturned car, and spent the night at the door of the public building.

The families are also complaining that they have not received support from León Express, even though the company said in a statement that it has been in contact with them. Betty Norbel, who lost her brother, niece, and friend in the accident, was one of those who complained about the lack of communication.

The company must take responsibility. We really need support, the whole family is hurt. I hope that the company will, at least, bear the expenses for the burial – he said in an interview with RPP Radio.
