The Secretary-General of the United Nations noted the novel coronavirus pandemic and its effects on the economy, global warming and other problems that countries must face.

“The COVID-19 pandemic exaggerates stark inequalities. The climate crisis is hitting the planet. The uprisings, from Afghanistan to Ethiopia and Yemen and beyond, have undermined peace,” he said.

“The wave of mistrust and misinformation is polarizing people and paralyzing societies, and human rights are under attack. Science is under attack,” the Secretary-General said.

“It is time to deliver,” he told world leaders and leaders at the United Nations headquarters in New York. “We are creating problems that we can solve.”

“Don’t wait for others to do their part,” said the UN Secretary-General.

Guterres also called for peace, saying that “military coups are back” (He criticized more than once the military coup in Myanmar) and harsh criticism of the uneven vaccination against Covid-19 in the world.

“On the one hand, we see vaccines developed in record time – a victory for science and human ingenuity. On the other hand, we see this victory regressed by the tragedy of a lack of political will, selfishness and mistrust,” said the Portuguese.

“Most of the world’s richest countries have been vaccinated. More than 90% of Africans are still waiting for the first dose,” the UN Secretary-General said. “It’s obscene. We passed the science test. But we got an F in ethics.”
