A chimpanzee who has lived his entire life in captivity has a remarkable reaction to seeing the sky for the first time

Vanilla is a 29-year-old chimpanzee who has lived her whole life closed off, not knowing what day and night are. However, the best happened! And your reaction to seeing the sky for the first time is exciting.

The chimpanzee was rescued by the Save the Chimps animal sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida (USA), which gave her a chance for a new start.

But before she got there, she spent her life trapped in a cage measuring only 1.5 square meters or a container the size of a garage.

However, the dark time has passed and today this cutie lives in a dignified way!

The primate spent its first two years of life in the Laboratory of Primate Medicine and Surgery (LEMSIP) in New York, USA, which closed in 1997.

From there, the chimpanzee was taken along with other animals to the Wildlife Waystation in California.

There, she was confined to a small barn, about the size of a garage, unable to see the sky clearly through the fenced-in roof. The venue closed in 2019 due to the risk of wildfires.

Now hosted by the Save the Chimps Animal Sanctuary in Fort Pierce, she is welcomed by Dwight, another chimpanzee who lives there.

“Vanilla and Shake have been fully integrated into a large family group and released into their island home,” Save the Chimps wrote in the caption. Vanilla was hesitant, but all it took was an encouraging alpha hug for her to let go.

The moment they saw the sky for the first time was captured and shared on the sanctuary’s Instagram account. @employee On June 15, it had amassed over 30,000 views and thousands of comments.

d said Andrew Halloran from Save the Chimps to the news portal New York Post.

Once confined, it has now found refuge on the island, which is home to 226 chimpanzees culled by laboratories, the entertainment industry, the exotic pet trade and roadside zoos.

According to the organization, many of these chimpanzees were confined to solitary confinement and never had the opportunity to interact with others of their species.

“Vanilla adjusts really well,” he continued. “When she’s not exploring the island with her friends, she can usually be found atop a three-story climbing platform, exploring her new world.”
