Hospitals in Curitiba and the metropolitan area serving SUS report that they operate with a deficit of R$23.6 million. The meeting that would deal with this issue was canceled on Monday (31st).

Chancellor Noemia Rocha, Chairman of the Health Committee of the Curitiba Chamber, confirmed that the meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon (31) in the Legislative Assembly of Paraná, with representatives of the Health Committee of the House of Representatives, has been cancelled.

According to her, negotiations are continuing on this topic and the idea is to unite efforts to avoid layoffs and close beds in hospitals in Curitiba and the metropolitan region, which are facing a serious financial crisis due to lack of resources.

Hospitals Cajuro, Evangelico Mackenzie, Pequeno Principe de Curitiba and hospitals in the metropolitan area, Angelina Caron and Rossio, serving SUS, claim they are running with a monthly shortfall of R$23.6 million, which could rise to R$32.8 million, if the national nursing floor is implemented.

Departments are talking with public authorities to find a solution and avoid 416 bed closures and 1,794 hospital layoffs.

Alvaro Quintas, of Kajuro Hospital, a spokesperson for the other hospitals, says the situation has worsened in the past three years, with inflation rising.

The order is a readjustment of 20-30% of contracts.

According to the head of the Health Committee of the City Council of Curitiba, there is still no specific date for the new meeting with the Health Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Paraná.
