Brazil has 237 new deaths and an average of less than a thousand for 10 days

Today, Brazil recorded 237 new deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the total to 563,707 since the beginning of the epidemic. Thus, the moving average of mortality completes ten days below a thousand. The data was obtained by the Federation of Press Vehicles, among them UOL It is part, with state health departments.

On Mondays, the number of deaths is usually lower due to the data corruption that occurs over the weekend.

On average, 907 people died from the disease in the past seven days, which is a 17% decrease compared to the previous 14 days. The index has been below a thousand since July 31, and last week it even dropped two days to below 900. In 2021, this number was above a thousand for 191 days in a row, while in 2020 the maximum time was 31 days.

The moving average is the calculation of the daily average of deaths from the data of the past seven days. It is considered the most reliable number for analyzing the progress or return of an epidemic, as it is able to correct for fluctuations in data from health departments that occur on weekends and holidays, when states operate on a schedule.

Vehicles combine for information

In response to the government’s decision Jair Bolsonaro To restrict access to data related to the covid-19 pandemic and the media UOLO Estado de S. Paulo, Folha de S. Paulo, O Globo, G1 and Extra have formed a consortium to work collaboratively to obtain necessary information directly from the state health secretariats in the 27 union units.

The federal government, through the Ministry of Health, should be the natural source for these numbers, but the positions of the authorities and the president himself during the pandemic cast doubt on the availability and accuracy of the data.
