The Chinese rover Yutu 2, while exploring the Von Kármán crater on the far side of the moon, recorded the UFO in a very blurry image. In a posting of the image on the Weixin social network, the outreach program of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), Our Space, suggested to the public that the UFO could be a “mysterious compartment”. Contrary to expectations, this object is believed to be just one of the many rocks available on the Moon. Until Yutu 2 can travel an average distance of 80 meters to study the body, a process that will take about two or three months, a definitive answer cannot be given yet, but there is a very reasonable hypothesis. But the task is not easy. The Chinese rover needs solar power to move very carefully across the moon’s jagged terrain, among debris and craters. When the sun is directly over the Yutu 2, it should be turned off to avoid overheating. During the lunar night, which lasts two weeks, it must also be turned off so as not to waste energy. Oh. We have an update of Yutu-2 on the far side of the Moon, including an image of a cube in the northern horizon, about 80 meters from the rover, in Von Kármán crater. Referred to as “神秘” (“mysterious house”), the next 2-3 days of the moon will be spent getting close to checking it out. All these logistics make the time to approach and study the object take that time. However, even with waiting, evidence suggests that the object is rock dug out during the impact and the consequent formation of a new crater on the moon’s surface. This phenomenon has been observed before, which makes the hypothesis easy to sustain. So yeah, it’s not an obelisk or extraterrestrials, but it’s definitely something to check out, and it’s hard to discern much from the picture. But the larger boulders (right) are sometimes excavated by collisions, as seen on the Chang’e-3 mission, which launched 8 years ago on Dec. [CNSA / CLEP] This image isn’t the first strange thing Yutu 2 has spotted on the side of the Moon always facing away from Earth. In 2019, he found a strange substance described as “jelly-like”, which turned out to be moon rocks dissolved in glass, also due to its impact on the surface. The moon, unprotected by the atmosphere, has a lot of collisions with it. Observation of the “mysterious hut” will tell us more accurately about the moon, even if this object is not conclusive evidence of the existence of extraterrestrials. The state of rocks just removed from the lunar subsurface, depending on its depth, can provide clues to the composition of the terrain, for example. CNSA scientists are eager for the opportunity to further study the object during the 36th day of Yutu 2’s moon operations. Currently in its 37th lunar day, after landing in January 2019, Yutu 2 and Chang’e 4 spacecraft are approaching the end of their third year of exploration, they are still very strong.
