2 min readCorinthians rejected an appeal by Justice in a lawsuit brought by Regis Marques Chedid Esportivo – EPP, which belongs to Regis Marques, one of the agents responsible for the arrival of Angel Romero in mid-2014.
the gate My dream He had access to the process taking place in the forty-second civil court in São Paulo. Judge Fabiana Clael Canfor de Almeida did not accept the arguments of the club’s lawyers, who claimed that the charges were excessive. The amount confirmed by the judge is R$1,067,166.84, which can still be increased via interest, fines and corrections.
The debt remains in the aftermath of the acquisition of Paraguay eight years ago. See the process timeline below:
- Jun 10 2014 – Corinthians undertakes to pay R$2,490,200.00 in four installments of R$622,550.00 to Regis Marques, as Broker (Sub-license to Use Personal Rights);
- Jul 12, 2017 – After Corinthians did not pay part of the amount agreed three years ago, the club and the businessman entered into a new agreement, in which the club pledges to pay R$1,950,000.00 in 30 equal and successive monthly installments of R$65,000;
- February 12, 2019 to October 12, 2019 – Corinth does not honor the last installments of the agreement (in total, nine months of default);
- October 20, 2020 – Regis Marques’ attorneys send extrajudicial notice to Corinthians and give ten days to settle the debt;
- June 14, 2021 – Without receiving the money, the law firm of Regis Marques Chedid Esportivo – EPP takes legal action and charges R$ 1,067,166.84;
- August 2, 2021 – Corinthians appeals and claims to increase the amount claimed by the plaintiff and also requests a hearing to attempt conciliation and/or mediation between the parties;
- November 4, 2021 – The businessman’s lawyers challenge the appeal, reconfirm the terms of the two previous agreements and charge the amount with interest and corrections;
- Feb 11 2022 – Judge Fabiana Clael Canfor de Almeida, of Civil Court No. 42, gives a positive decision to the businessman, confirming R$10,67166.84 as a debtor on the part of Corinthians.
Now there will be two legal ways to the Corinthians. The first is to reach a new agreement with Regis Marques’ attorney, to pay the amount in installments and pay the monthly installments. The second is to bring in new resources, but that would leave the club at the mercy of freezing accounts and income.
