Acre ended the period from January to July 2021 with a record balance of $30.498 million in its balance of trade in the foreign market. This value is the highest in the historical series since 1997 and is 51% higher than the balance for the same period in 2020 which was $20.215 million. In today’s article we will comment on the expansion of the overseas market and highlight Acre’s main export destinations. To do this, we will make a reduction in the historical series, comparing the data from 2021 with data from five years ago, i.e. 2016. The data source was the Ministry of Economy and was obtained through a website: http://comexstat.mdic.gov.br/pt/geral. The survey was conducted on August 9 and 10, 2021.

Wood and by-products – the United States continues to lead in destinations, China and France lead

We will start with wood and timber products whose exports in July amounted to 1.19 million US dollars and in the first seven months of the year 8.98 million or 27.7% of the total value of Acre’s exports in the year (32,107 million US dollars). .

Over the past five years, the United States has maintained its position as a leader in our timber procurement. Belgium also remains a loyal partner, and in 2021, China and France are already emerging as important partners in the acre wood market.

Brazil Nut – Peru expands as a bigger destination and Bolivia loses ground to the US and UK

As a traditional forest product in Acre, Brazil nuts, which includes a wide production chain, benefiting hundreds of small producers and extractors from Acre, appeared in the first seven months of 2021, with the second highest value for products exported by Acre. Until July, 8.10 million US dollars of the product had already been exported, accounting for 25.2% of the total exports.

Peru remains the main destination for the Brazil nuts exported by Acre. However, in 2021, there was a diversification of destinations, focusing on the presence of the United States of America with a certain importance (12.8%) as the buyer of the product. On the other hand, there is a decrease in the participation of Bolivia compared to 2016.

Soybeans and Derivatives – Europe is establishing itself as Akko’s largest soybean destination

As a new product for Acre’s agribusiness, soybeans and their derivatives are already emerging with the third highest value of Acre’s exports. The total exports in the first seven months of 2021 amounted to 7.23 million US dollars, accounting for 22.5% of the general exports in the period.

Acre’s first export record of soybeans and derivatives was in 2018, heading to Thailand, Peru and the Netherlands. In 2021, the Netherlands continues as a captive destination for Acre’s exports (28.4%), of which Spain is shown in the lead. In addition to Turkey and Russia, Mexico (7.2%) and Tunisia (2.8%) are also emerging as important destinations for product exports in 2021.

Bovine derivatives – Hong Kong remains the largest buyer of Acrean bovine derivatives

The economic activity with the highest total value of rural production in Acre, livestock farming, is responsible for the fourth highest value of exports in the first seven months of 2021. Even without the ability to export the special reductions required by major import markets total exports of beef and its derivatives amounted to 3.932 million US dollars in this period, accounting for 12.2% of total exports. We know that most Acre meat is exported abroad by the other states of the Federation, especially Rondônia.

In 2016, there were only three destinations for livestock products, mainly Hong Kong (83.8%) and Vietnam (11.3%). Peru still claimed that year 4.9% of Acre’s products. There are still bureaucratic hurdles to be resolved, and Peru does not emerge as a destination for beef derivatives exports in 2021. In addition to Hong Kong, Paraguay, Switzerland, USA, Congo and Japan, they are emerging as new markets for these products in 2021.

Pork and its derivatives – Bolivia dominates, but Hong Kong, Denmark and Mozambique already appear in the statistics

Pork and its derivatives ranked fifth in terms of Acre’s export value in the first seven months of 2021, with a total of 1.32 million US dollars, representing 4.1% of the total exports in the period.

The first record of pork exports was also in 2018, with exports exclusively to Bolivia.

With the expansion of activity, in 2021, in addition to Bolivia that still dominates in the purchase of products, Hong Kong (9.9%), Denmark (6.2%) and the African country Mozambique (5.6%) appear.

In conclusion, we are convinced that we still have a lot to grow, especially in the export of products of animal origin (beef, pork, poultry, fish). We have already advanced in many aspects, particularly in terms of health and adoption of our flock. However, bilateral negotiations must move forward, especially with our neighbor Peru.

However, in the case of Acre, opening new markets meant expanding its international trade. But we are far from ideal. It is also necessary to prepare the producer and source to meet the requirements of each of these new customers, in addition to developing trade promotion activities and spreading Acre’s products to expand the range of trading partners.
