a Cumbre Vega volcano eruption, on the Spanish island of La Palma, it finally ended, after 85 days of activity, as confirmed on Saturday (25) by technicians who followed the phenomenon throughout the entire period.

“The eruption is over,” Julio Perez, a spokesman for the Canary Islands regional government, told a news conference.

The volcano began its activity on September 19 in the southern part of the island of La Palma, and for more than three months, it released tons of lava that engulfed thousands of hectares and forced more than 2,000 people to evacuate.

The scientific committee considers December 13 to be the last day of the eruption, when the tremor signal stopped and all the features of the volcano were reduced.

However, they were given a few days to verify that the volcano was not active before they considered the eruption to be over. However, the authorities insist that the state of emergency is not over yet.

A spokesman for the Canary Islands government said: “The risks remain, as there are still gases, ash and heat that will go down, which is why the outlook looks positive.

Peres announced that as soon as the state of emergency ends, reconstruction will take place, which will begin next Monday (27). In the first half of January, it is planned to resettle people who have lost their homes due to the progress of various lava flows.

The damage caused by the eruption is staggering: more than 1,300 homes covered in lava, as well as farm buildings, recreational buildings, hotels and schools, as well as 73 kilometers of roads and other infrastructure such as water, electricity and telephone lines. The damage was severe because the volcanic eruption occurred in a populated area.
