Cyberpunk 2077: CDPR recommends an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 as a minimum for the new mode

Starting today (11), Cyberpunk 2077 has a new Overdrive graphics mode, which greatly improves the quality of ray tracing with trajectory tracing. We have already explained here that the new graphic quality is very demanding in terms of graphic processing, Although NVIDIA RTX 40 GPUs are recommended, CD Projekt Red says it’s possible to hit 1080p at 30 frames per second with the RTX 3090.

With the release of Overdrive mode for Cyberpunk 2077, the CDPR said:

Together with NVIDIA, we’re bringing in this game patch an all-new ray-traced rendering mode, also known as trajectory tracing: Ray Tracing Overdrive mode. We’re very proud. It pushes the boundaries of what’s possible from the technology. However, because it’s so new It’s fundamentally different from what we’ve used so far, and we know it won’t be perfect from the start and that players may experience some issues – so we decided to call it a ‘Technology Preview.’ It’s a vision of the future that we want to share, and we’re committed to continuing to work on and improve this feature.”

Is it possible to take Cyberpunk 2077 in Overdrive mode with other cards?

The studio describes the release as a “ray tracing technology preview,” and touts that cards over the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti are compatible with the new graphics quality, but still recommends the RTX 3090 for those who want to see real-time tracing. Action in 1080p at 30fps.

“Because it is a high-end feature, it requires the highest performance hardware available to run properly. Ray Tracing: Overdrive mode is graphics card intensive, so it is set to Off by default,” explains the studio.

For other video cards, it will be possible to use the photo mode to take a screenshot with the new effects, but the same does not apply to the gameplay. CDPR states that this is “possible because it only displays one frame instead of multiple frames every second (i.e. FPS) which is what will happen during gameplay”.

The new Cyberpunk 2077 update also added support for NVIDIA DLAA as well as Intel XeSS 1.1.
