Dorival Jr.’s primary recognition after the win over Sport
2 min readAs is customary among coaches, Dorival Junior spoke to reporters after defeating Sport in Ilha do Retiro in the first match of the Round of 16 of the 2023 Brazil Cup.
Among other things, the coach realized that the match had changed “from water to wine” after midfielder Fabinho was sent off 15 minutes into the second half for a tackle on Michel Araujo. With another player, Sao Paulo achieved victory with Luciano, in the 25th of Marcos Paulo, in the 43rd of the second half, taking an important step to reach the quarter-finals of the competition.
“It is normal that when you lose a player, you end up allowing a different situation. Sao Paulo knew how to benefit. We did not lose the organization, the standards and the attitude and we were able to create chances.” – said Dorival Jr.
I think this recognition is key because it shows “feet on the ground” in relation to the team, without being preoccupied with the excellent result obtained. When he was eleven, he was doing well in sports Stupendous And if it were not for the two defenses of the increasingly confident Raphael, things could get complicated.
I also make a “confession”: I imagined that Dorival would replace the two-billed athletes (as was the case with Nestor) shortly after they were fired, but Dorival’s plan worked. The team behaved well and the changes were decisive for the result.
The expert Dorival finger (Picture: Learning with Guardiola at Bayern) modified the tri-color defense at the right time, and although many fans do not appreciate Seni’s tactical structure, the current coach, whenever he can, values the work of his predecessor in a legacy team.
With the gradual return of full-backs in mind in the starting line-up and one or two signings every now and then, the year should be more comfortable than I and many fans could have imagined. Of course, there’s still a long way to go for the ultimate conquests, but that’s the way it is.
