France calls for allies and challenges Germany’s air defense plan in Europe

France is challenging a German-led plan to build air defenses across Europe, in a fresh display of tensions over how to ensure the region’s security.
Sputnik – French President Emmanuel Macron continues his “double game” in politics, and plans to use a strategic air defense conference in Paris on Monday to discuss the Berlin plan with allies, including the United States, NATO officials and defense industry executives. .
Macron’s strategy reflects the differences between Paris and Berlin on how to bolster defenses as quickly as possible to contain the “threats” that Western countries have spoken of.
In October, German Chancellor Olaf unveiled Sky Shield, a plan to create an air and missile defense system in Europe, with joint acquisition of equipment.
Macron recently criticized the Berlin idea, saying that air defense is “a strategic issue first before it is an industrial issue”.
So far, 17 countries are already participating in the scheme, including the UK, the Baltic states, Sweden and Finland.
