Friend Says Visited Brazilian Mother Killed in US Custody of Immigration Agency | Santa Caterina

Brazilian Kesley Viall, 23, who Died in immigration agency custody His friend Mateus Henrique dos Santos Koch said that the United States (ICE) crossed the border on Wednesday (24) to find his mother.

“He hasn’t seen her in over 15 years. They practically meet again. It was a dream come true for both of them,” says the friend.

The young man was from São Paulo, but lived there Camphoriu, in Santa Catarina Beach, at least 10 years. According to a friend of his with whom he shared his youth, Kesley lived with his grandmother in the Santa Regina neighborhood and worked at a convenience store in the city.

Kesley was detained by Border Patrol agents in El Paso, Texas after entering the country without documents. US Immigration says the Brazilian was captured on April 22, but admits the date may not be correct.

The agency said an autopsy will determine the cause of death, which has yet to be confirmed.

According to Mateus, the trip was first to Mexico, and from there to the United States, where he would meet his mother, his friend said briefly.

“No one really knows yet. [o que causou a morte]. He would not have done anything to himself because he was so happy. It is very painful [a espera]”, says the friend.

Field was transferred to ICE custody in El Paso on April 29. While the process was underway, he was taken to a detention center in Torrance, New Mexico, in neighboring Texas.

He later collapsed in a US immigration detention center in New Mexico on August 17 and died Wednesday at the hospital.

ICE said it had notified the appropriate authorities of the death, including the Brazilian consulate in Houston, Texas, and that it was “conducting a comprehensive review of the incident.” The hospital staff informed the relatives of the field.

The agency said all immigrants in its detention facilities receive aid and allocates $315 million a year for health services for those in its custody.
