Gabriel Bandera sets a world record in the 100m butterfly

Brazilian Gabriel Bandera set a new Paralympic record during the qualifying round for the 100m butterfly class S14, which was held on Tuesday (Brasilia time) in Tokyo. But he was the record holder for a short time. Three minutes later, his mark was crossed.

The race, which made its Paralympic debut, scored in three qualifying races. Thus, the first record holder was the winner of the initial battery, Australian Liam Schlötter, from Complete the race in 58s38.

Then came the Brazilian’s turn. Gabriel won his vote in 56s78, improving the record by more than a second and a half and qualifying for the final.

But Brett Rees Dunn, the world record holder, immediately showed who is in charge of the race. In the third and final round, he won with 55 seconds 99, a time that remains a Paralympic Games record at least until the final, which will take place at 6:04 a.m. (Brazilian time) on Wednesday. The world record, also his, is 54s46.
