Team leader Sandy Alderson’s options for filling the spot may be limited, with less than a month before shooters and hunters are due to be submitted to spring training. A look at some of the possibilities:
Ex-CEO of Red Sox He was appointed last month as a lieutenant to PorterOverseeing analyzes and systems. Scott was the runner-up for the position when Porter was appointed. Scott started out with the Red Sox in 2004 and was part of three World Championship winners with Boston.
A mainstay in the organization for nearly two decades, Rico has been part of Sandy Alderson’s relocation team and helped interviews to recruit GM. Rico previously worked as an assistant to General Motors under Omar Manaya and Alderson before becoming part of a trilogy that replaced Alderson after his resignation in 2018. Over the past two seasons, Rico has led special projects for Mets and has been involved in negotiating contracts.
The Giants’ special assistant was in the final stage of the job when Porter was appointed last month and has had a long relationship with Alderson, dating back to the 1980s in Oakland. Ricciardi was a Special Assistant at Mets Front Office from 2011 to 2018 and had prior GM experience with Toronto.
Marlins’ former chief of baseball operations was the final candidate for GM when Porter was appointed. Hill is still a free agent.
