Hamburgers are featured in Tae Kwon Do competition in America – the sport
2 min readBrothers Novo Hamburgo Lorenzo and Pietro Bonton competed in the Taekwondo World Championships held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. More than 3,500 athletes from 12 countries participated in the event, which was held from July 11 to 17. The brothers faced each other in the semi-finals of the adult black belt division, something unprecedented for the organisers. The athletes represented the United States and did well: 19-year-old Lorenzo took first place, and 22-year-old Pietro took third place.
“Both showed that they are ready to compete and stand out in the first places,” said Eduardo Bonton, the boys’ father and biggest fan. In addition to securing a podium finish, the brothers won five more gold medals, two silver and two bronze for a total of nine medals.
After a week of competition, the youngsters are satisfied with the titles they have won. “Working for more than 10 years to achieve the goal of becoming world champion, now, the level of demand will be different, the responsibility is much higher”, says Lorenzo. “We will continue to bring the martial art of Tae Kwon Do with discipline and determination,” says Pietro.
And there is certainty. There won’t be much rest for either of them because, in the next few days, the training will all begin. “Now the focus is on training for the Panamericano, which will be held in Florianópolis between 23 and 28 September”, says Pietro.
