Accessories

We’re starting with the state of the new iPhones, and as you can see, not much has changed compared to the previous year. Only the cover illustration has been updated to accommodate design changes. The box remains compact and the reason for this is that accessories are more rare than ever.

When you take your iPhone 13 out of the box, you’ll find just the USB cable with the Lightning connection, the key to unlock the SIM tray, the Apple sticker and the quick guide. Again we did not receive a charger or headphones.

This makes the unboxing experience really bad and we could end here, but let’s take a look at the design and see what changed in the next generation.

design

Apple has been reworking the same design since launching the iPhone 10 in 2017. The giant notch still eats up a lot of the screen, but it’s finally got smaller and we now have better use of the front end.

Looking at new iPhones like these, there seems to be no change, but when you put the new one next to the old, you’ll notice that there’s a nice drop. This was possible thanks to the reorganization of the sensors responsible for Face ID and without compromising the performance and security of the sensor. In fact, Apple claims that the new is better with iOS 15 at recognizing biometrics.

The design of the camera block has also changed. On the iPhone 13 and its mini version, the cameras are now arranged diagonally. While on the Pro models, we have larger cameras and a pop-up glass block. The aluminum sides and length and width measurements haven’t changed, but the new iPhones are a bit fatter and heavier.

In terms of colors, we have the new Blue-Sierra option on the Pro models as well as the Graphite, Gold and Silver options. On the cheapest models, we have five color options, including pink and red.

Monitor

The screen has not changed in terms of size and resolution in all four models. We have 5.4 inches on the mini, 6.1 inches on the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, and 6.7 inches on the Pro Max. The new 120Hz panel is certified in the Pro Duo, speed depending on the type of content.

So when you look at an Instagram post or a photo in the gallery, the screen will only slow down to 10Hz, which helps a lot in saving battery power. In games we have the screen at full speed to play at 120fps. For those coming from an Android phone with a 120Hz screen, this won’t be new.

The smaller devices are still locked at 60Hz, but they share the same display technology with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support.

hardware

The new iPhones debuted on the A15 Bionic platform. It still has a hexa-core processor, but it comes with a higher speed and some improvements to make a huge jump in performance. What changes between the Pro and cheaper models is the GPU. Despite being the same build, we have more graphics cores to handle the 120Hz screen on the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Anyone expecting more RAM will be disappointed. The cheapest connects with 4 GB and the most expensive keeps 6 GB from the previous generation. Storage has jumped to 128GB in the entry option, up to 1TB at the most expensive.

drums

The reason the new iPhones are fatter is because Apple has increased the size of the battery in this generation. The company promises a few more hours of use, even giving a bigger difference to the Pro models due to the LTPO display that regulates the speed of the panel.

This isn’t the time we’ve seen Apple embrace high-powered charging. The new iPhones are still designed for use with the brand’s older chargers and the company claims the Pro Max recovers 50% in just over half an hour with a 20W charger sold separately.

cameras

Looking at the numbers, it seems that the cameras on the new iPhones aren’t quite as advanced. They all remain 12MP, but we have new sensors and software improvements. Professional versions now feature 3x optical zoom and use of wide-area autofocus for macros.

This time around, the iPhone hasn’t moved to 8K footage yet, but it does come with a new ProRes mode for professional 4K recording on models with more than 256GB of storage and Full HD on the model with 128GB of memory.

Of course TudoCelular will be testing performance, battery, and cameras to see if all these changes really affect a more powerful phone.
