This week, the U.S. Department of Justice released a statement declaring that prisoners’ routine violations of their constitutional rights are routine. The DOJ noted that “based on a thorough investigation, there are reasonable grounds to believe that the conditions and procedures at the Mississippi State Penitentiary (also known as the Parchman) violate the Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.”
Yo Coty Issued a statement following the announcement.
“My heart goes out to the inmates who are suffering from lack of access to clean water, food and sanitation and the families who have sadly lost loved ones in the process. I will continue to defend the voiceless people until they get due justice. I am grateful to the full report of the U.S. Department of Justice for holding the Mississippi Corrections Department responsible for the brutal and inhumane treatment of incarcerated people.
