After working for seven years as a member of the coaching staff of the Red and Gold of the University Laval, and have won the Vanier Cup four times, the Granbyen original Kevin Nichols takes the path of Rimouski, where he will lead the football program of the Pioneers of the college to the place.
“This is not a decision I have taken lightly and it is hard to say goodbye to these people with whom I have much liked to work,” said Nichols, who will meet with the media in the Bas-Saint-Laurent on Thursday. I learned so much with the Red and Gold and the University of Laval…”
Nichols, a former player and a former coach of the Amazing J.-H.-Leclerc, held the position of coach of the half-defensive coordinator at the video and responsible for the studies of athletes.
“I’m going to be 30 years old soon, and I had the impression that it was time to get moving and advance in my career. But even if I leave the university football and I’m going to the college football, I have the feeling that I advance since I’ll be head coach and I’m going to truly build something with my hands, from my own ideas.”
The Pioneers are evolving in the third division. But Nichols, who has been approached by people from the Cégep de Rimouski, a little before the Holidays, love the structure of the football program that he will lead.
“It is very similar to the model of the Red and Gold. I really like what I see of the organization.”
By the summer, Nichols will do a lot of short trips to Rimouski. But it will be permanently in the metropolis of the Bas-Saint-Laurent in July.
“It’s a new adventure begins. I am glad of that. It is a nice challenge for me,” he concludes.
