The measles outbreak has hit Montgomery County with the first reported case on February 4th, leaving over 230 patients at Dayton Children’s Hospital potentially exposed. Those who were at specific locations during certain time frames are urged to contact their local health department for vaccination assessments and information on measles signs and symptoms.

One of the locations where exposure may have occurred is the Disney on Ice performance, raising concerns for attendees who may have come in contact with the virus. The measles virus is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours, making it easily spread through contaminated air or surfaces.

Symptoms of measles include a high fever, runny nose, cough, loss of appetite, red eyes, and a rash that starts at the hairline and moves down the body. Residents of Montgomery County are advised to call 937-225-5991 or visit www.phdmc.org for more information, while Greene County residents should call 937-805-9122.

Jen Balduf, who contributed to the report, stresses the importance of seeking vaccination assessments and taking necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the measles virus. Stay informed and stay safe.
