Mario Cedillo InfanteThe mayor of Guerrero state of Coahuila was traveling with eight others on the night of Friday the 14th when authorities lost contact with his group in the city of Nuevo Laredo, the state government said in a statement.
Before disappearing, the group alerted authorities that two trucks carrying armed men were following them.
A senior state official said Reuters Armed men reportedly kidnapped the group and authorities in Coahuila are working with the military to rescue the mayor and his companions.
The border city of Nuevo Laredo is in the neighboring state of Tamaulipas and has long been known for violent clashes between organized crime gangs.
Cedillo’s wife and son were among the missing, a senior politician in Coahuila told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
