Mike Pence defends Trump and talks about “political accusations”
2 min readFormer US Vice President Mike Pence called the New York grand jury indictment against Donald Trump “anger” and “the qualities of a political process.” The statements came last Thursday (30), in an interview with CNN.
“I think the unprecedented indictment of a former president of the United States on campaign finance is an outrage,” he declared.
According to Pence, the action against Trump “seems to millions of Americans more than a political indictment.” Thus, this “harm to the country” will only lead to more division among the people.
“I truly believe that this decision today is a great disservice to the country and the idea that for the first time in American history a former president will be charged on a campaign finance issue to me, which is like a political process, and I think the vast majority of the American people will see it that way.”
Also according to Mike Pence, the decision to indict Trump in a grand jury in New York “will not in any way affect” the GOP’s attempt to launch his candidacy for president in 2024.
When asked if he was considering running for the White House, he replied that he was considering his political experience as governor of Indiana, having served in Congress and as vice president.
While it didn’t end well, I will always be proud of the track record of the Trump and Pence administration. We will reflect on all this and decide where we can contribute to the life of the nation.”
