Moro is silent about Bolsonaro’s bribes and is being questioned on the networks
2 min readIn recent years, the image of Moro as a “champion against corruption”, invented by the establishment press, has become downright depressing.
247 – Former Minister of Justice in the government of Jair Bolsonaro, and former Lava Gato judge who illegally arrested Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in 2018, Senator Sergio Moro (Uniao Brasil) has been silent about bribes received by his former boss in the federal government. For this, he was questioned on social media.
For example, the Sportlight agency profile wrote:
“I would really like to ask Sergio Moro: 1- Is a gift of R$16 million a specific or unspecified act of corruption by a president? 2- How many pedal boats are there in R$16 million worth? 3- How do you feel that you were A loyal haven for someone who keeps R$16 million in his underwear?”
In recent years, especially after his conviction for the crimes he committed, Moro’s image of a “hero against corruption”, invented by the corporate press, has fallen completely, to the frustration of the former judge in Lava Jato – one of the largest criminal operations and political persecutions in Brazilian history.
In October, an advisor to former minister Bento Albuquerque, from the Mines and Energy Corporation, tried to illegally bring jewelry worth 3 million euros, equivalent to R$16.5 million, into Brazil. The necklace, ring, watch and pair of earrings were a gift from the government of Saudi Arabia to former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro.
Federal Revenue agents confiscated the jewels at Guarulhos Airport, in São Paulo, as it is mandatory to declare to the agency any goods over one thousand US dollars entering Brazil. Reservation occurred on October 26, 2021.
There were four thwarted attempts to recover the products, involving three ministries (economy, mines, energy and foreign affairs) and the army. On December 28, 2022, Bolsonaro himself sent a letter to the Federal Revenue Office to request that the goods be destined for the Presidency of the Republic.
The Ministry of Justice, led by Flavio Dino, will on Monday open an investigation to investigate Jair and Michelle Bolsonaro for crimes of corruption, smuggling and money laundering in the case of jewelry worth R$16.5 million illegally received from the property. Saudi working in Brazil.
